SUKMA XIII MELAKA 2010 GOLF CHALLENGE
A GREAT WAY TO PROMOTE SUKAN MALAYSIA
The Sukan Malaysian XIII secretariat was thinking of many innovative ways to help raise awareness and promotion of the Games. They realised the need to promote the Games to the masses and the Sukan Malaysia XIII Melaka 2010 Golf Challenge was seen as the perfect platform to do so and is just the first step of the secretariat's promotion campaign..
After months of planning, the tournament involving 60 golf clubs from 14 states, including one from Brunei, teed off in January with more than 2,800 amateur golfers. In the first two weeks of February, another 950 golfers competed for a place in the second round, although that number is expected to increase dramatically as many golf clubs had postponed their Monthly Medal tournaments to the end of the month due to the Chinese New Year celebrations. The second round tees off in March while the semi-finals will be held in Kedah, Selangor, Johor, Terengganu and Sabah from April to May. The Grand Final will be held just before the Official Opening of the Sukan Malaysia XIII Melaka on June 10, 2010.
The total number of participation is expected to be 12,000, which should earn the tournament a place in the Malaysian Book of Record as the golf tournament with the most participants.
The semi-finalist will receive a special limited shoe bag and 8’ Golf Stand Bag as part of their goodies. They will also receive one night full accommodation as golfers will have to play their semi-finals away from home. Prizes will be given to the top 10 gross and top 10 nett scores. There will also be a lucky draw with many attractive prizes.

Full accommodation will be provided for the finalists and the top 15 gross and 15 nett scores will earn attractive prizes with the winners earning the Sukan Malaysia XIII Melaka 2010 Golf Challenge 'Challenge Silver Claret trophy' Once again, there will be a lucky draw with many attractive prizes.
“The clubs with the most number of participants since the event started are Kuala Lumpur Golf & Country Club (Kuala Lumpur), Kota Permai Golf & Country Club (Selangor), Bukit Jawi Golf Resot (Penang), Kelantan Golf Club (Kelantan), The Legend Golf & Country Resort (Johor), Tawau Golf Club (Sabah),” said Terence Lee, Chief Operating Officer of MS3 Golf Sdn Bhd, the organisers of the Sukan Malaysia XIII Melaka 2010 Golf Challenge.
“We are using the clubs’ monthly medal tournaments as our qualifying rounds and this has benefited the clubs. Previously, many clubs had complained their members were not too interested in participating in the Monthly Medal events.
“However, since we incorporated Sukan Malaysia XIII Melaka 2010 Golf Challenge into their Monthly Medal. We have seen an increase in the number of members taking part in the Monthly Medal.”
Meanwhile, MS3 Golf Sdn Bhd Chief Executive Officer Nor Afendi Mohd Razlan said: “We are grateful to the support from the clubs who have hosted the Sukan Malaysia XIII Melaka 2010 Golf Challenge and we hope they will continue to support all our events in future. Our aim is to help make the Monthly Medal event a competition worth entering and to give the amateurs an avenue to test their skills against their fellow golfers.”
